About
Margins, an international peer-reviewed journal, is published annually by the Department of English, Gauhati University. It offers a space for the exploration of the marginal in its theoretical implications and in literature and culture through four kinds of writings:
It welcomes examination of the historical and the contemporary through interdisciplinary perspectives – looking at texts in both their wider conceptual and immediate situational significance (7500 and 10,000 words).
It has a special interest in the retrieval of texts and authors who have been invisible in mainstream disciplinary concerns but are considered significant in their respective locations and are presented convincingly and this is presented as a Special Choice by the journal (10,000 words).
Margins would also consider new work by young researchers in areas that meet the journal’s focus as also shorter (3000 to 5000) word essays that provide information about marginal literary and cultural texts, pedagogical issues of teaching the margins/teaching at the margins, or marginal and neglected aspects of canonical texts.
The journal also has a book review section and will be open to reviews of books that match its thrust on the marginal (up to 2500 words for reviews and 5000 words for review essays). All word limits are inclusive of references.
Submissions should use the MLA Handbook (8th Edition) style for referencing (using endnotes–as few as possible and Works Cited). In the case of citations from poems and plays line numbers must be provided. All borrowed material should be duly credited. The journal will not be responsible for consequences resulting from plagiarism of any kind.
Contributors are requested not to use the automatic Insert option for references and notes but insert them manually. All submissions conforming to these requirements should be sent as an email attachment in MSWord to margins@gauhati.ac.in or ashaakc@gauhati.ac.in. Simultaneous submissions are not welcome. There will be a preliminary screening by the editorial team after which papers will be sent to external reviewers. Following the review process, authors will have two weeks to make their corrections and resend the completed pieces.
